Many theories have attempted to explain social change in Latin America, purportedly in a way meant to pave the way for a better future. However, all of them have failed as they often neglect the multiple dimensions inherent in the notion of development which requires a rather holistic and comprehensive approach.

In this publication supported by the Mexico office of Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, the author J. Álvaro Cálix R. picks up on the current development debate in Latin America by presenting the dominant development models and their fault lines and proposing an approach for a socially fair and ecologically sustainable transformation for the Latin American region.
