The future of work in Asia – How can India create livelihoods in the digital age?

“Despite being an investors’ darling, India’s employment generation track record has been disappointing”

This trend is exacerbated by the fact that digital automation is increasingly replacing workers in the service sector.

Digitalisation will inevitably lead to the urgency of creating new forms of jobs and labour. In this respect, special attention must be dedicated to India, where, according to experts, approximately 280 million more people will be entering the labour market by 2050 and for whom sufficient employment possibilities must be created. Meeting this demand will be challenging, but not impossible.
